Classes at Threads & More!

All classes are held at our shop at Indooroopilly.  If you’d like to sign up for a class, please call during business hours on 07 3870 1005, drop by the shop: Threads & More, Shop 1b, 172 Clarence Road (cnr Clarence & Lambert Rds), Indooroopilly, Brisbane 4068, or book online.

To secure your place in any knitting or crocheting class, a $25 per person non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, with the remaining class fees to be paid on the day. For other specialty workshops including Felting, specific fees and deposits are outlined in the workshop description.

Troubleshooting for Knitting & Crocheting

$15 an hour

Have you hit a snag in your latest project, can’t get past a tricky bit, need some help to stitch together beautifully, or just need a helping hand to start the next project in your queue … Then book in an hour or two at the “round table” and we’ll help you troubleshoot whatever it is you are stuck on.

Give us a call to book in either a half session (choose the first or second hour), or a full session, and let us know what it is you are stuck on, or what project you are about to kick off so we will be ready to assist.

*Minimum class enrolment for these days is 2 students per hour, as the teacher is called into teach these sessions.

To secure your place in a Troubleshooting session, full payment is required at the time of booking.  Any cancellations must be made prior to 24 hours before the session to receive store credit or the option to transfer to the next available session. Any cancellations made within 24 hours of the class will forfeit payment.

Beginning Knitting – Absolute Beginners

$75 for 3 2hr Sessions

For those people who have never knitted before, in this 3 session class, you will learn how to: cast on, complete the knit stitch and the purl stitch, combine the stitches to create basic patterns (like stocking, moss and rib), cast off your knitting and weave in your ends. Additional tips will be given for completing your project neatly, the best way to introduce a new colour, and picking up dropped stitches. No prior experience is required. This class will take you from novice to knitter- in no time!

Materials Required

  • 2 balls of 8ply/DK or 10ply/worsted yarn in different colours. We recommend Cleckheaton Country 8ply, Rowan Tweed DK, Spud & Chloe Sweater, Amy Butler Belle Organic DK or Aran.
  • Set of straight knitting needles, in the appropriate size for your yarn
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Beginning Knitting – Refresh your Skills

$90 for 3 2 1/2hr Sessions

For those people who were taught by nana years ago, or have given it a go themselves and want to master the basics, this 3 session class will give you all the skills you need to advance from the basic scarf. In this series of classes, you will learn how to: cast on, complete the knit stitch and the purl stitch, join your knitting to work in the round, follow a pattern, decrease stitches, cast off your knitting and weave in your ends. Additional tips will be given for completing your project neatly, troubleshoot your way through mistakes and a whole lot more.

Materials Required

  • 150 metres of any 10ply/worsted yarn with a tension of 16sts/10cm (choose a light colour so you can see what you are doing as you learn to knit). We recommend Spud & Chloe Sweater, or Amy Butler Belle Organic Aran.
  • Set of 5mm needles in all the following types: straight knitting needles at least 30mm long, 40cm circular & 60cm circular (this may seem like a lot of needles for a beginner class, but they will come in handy for future projects)
  • 8 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Beginning Crochet – Absolute Beginners

$75 for 3 2hr Sessions

Old school crochet has become the new school past time for all ages! Whether its vintage style you want to recreate, or something entirely modern, this 3 session class will give you the basic skills you need to ‘hook’ into any project. In this series of classes you will learn the three basic stitches: chain, double, treble; how to work backwards & forwards, and in the round; tricks to change colour neatly; combining basic stitches to create new stitches; pattern reading & basic joining together. After the class, you can choose to continue practicing to complete a cushion or blanket – a great first project. Additional tips will be given for completing your project neatly, troubleshooting your way through mistakes and a whole lot more.

Materials Required

  • 2 balls of 8ply/DK or 10ply/worsted yarn in different colours. We recommend Cleckheaton Country 8ply, Rowan Tweed DK, Spud & Chloe Sweater, Amy Butler Belle Organic DK or Aran.

Beginning Crochet – Granny Square Workshop

$75 for 3 2hr Sessions

Take the basic granny square and tweak it with some brilliant tips & techniques to prefect the square. Learn all about blocking and why its important, and then experiment with alternative joining methods to find your favourite. Students must be comfortable with the crocheting basics (at least chain, treble). From the work completed in this workshop, you can continue to complete a fantastic granny square blanket.

Materials Required

  • 2 balls of any yarn in different colours. Some great options for this workshop are Rowan Tweed DK, Koigu KPPPM, MillaMia Naturally Soft Merino, Cleckheaton Country 8ply, Rowan Cotton Glace, Spud & Chloe Fine or Sweater, Amy Butler Belle Organic DK or Aran.
  • Crochet hook, in the appropriate size for your yarn
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

On Trend – Short Row Shaping

$65 for 2 2hr Sessions*

If you have been wanting to challenge yourself with a new knitting skill, then why not join us and learn about the latest trend: short-row shaping. In this series of classes you will learn how to construct short rows through creating wrap & turns, discuss the alternative methods of garter stitch & stocking stitch short row construction, and learn a couple of expert tips for joining in a new colour and a new ball of yarn seamlessly. Its unlikely that you will complete the shawl in class, however everything you need to know to finish the project will be covered over the two weeks. *Class tuition includes the latest copy of Knitscene magazine, complete with two pattern options and loads more.

Materials Required

  • 300 metres each of two complimentary colours of sport weight yarn (we suggest Koigu KPPPM, or Millamia)
  • 3.25mm & 3.50mm 80cm circular needle, or appropriate size to achieve tension.

New Skills – Magic Loop Knitting

$40 for 1 3hr Session

If you have been wanting to challenge yourself with a new knitting skill, love the idea of small circular knitting projects, but hate the idea of double point needles … then why not join us and learn how to knit in the round using the magic loop method to make a beautiful little pixie hat, perfect for a new born baby. In the class we will discuss the benefits of magic loop, and look at the different applications for magic loop.

Materials Required

  • 100 grams of 10ply/worsted weight yarn. We suggest Blue Sky Alpacas Worsted Cotton, Spud & Chloe Sweater, or Amy Butler Belle Organic Aran.
  • 5.00mm 100/120cm circular needle, or appropriate size to achieve tension.
  • Tapestry needle

Learn to Knit Socks – Cuff down

$75 for 3 2hr Sessions

Using your preferred method of knitting in the round (double points, magic loop or two circulars), tackle this simple little sports sock that focusses on the fun bits of knitting socks – heels & toes. Start with the cast on and cuff, begin the heel and then finish up with the toe and pop on a pompom! *We will have some fun in the last class making pompoms.

Materials Required

  • 100 grams of 4ply/sock weight yarn. We suggest Koigu KPPPM, Shepherd Baby Merino 4ply, Spud & Chloe Fine.
  • 2.75mm needles to suit your preferred method of knitting in the round.
  • Tapestry needle

Felting Classes

MAKE A PODLETTE

$75 for 3hr tuition

Wendy will teach you to use a template to create a basic small pod shaped vessel. Learn sculptural techniques to make round hollow pods. Learn how to make really hard felt that will hold its shape. You will make one or two pods over the evening.

This is a felting class suitable for all skill levels. It requires a moderate amount of physical work rubbing and rolling the felt.

Materials Required

  • 150 grams of wool top. This can be solid in colour, or a mixture of colours. Some small amounts of mixed colours for embellishment.
  • For textural decoration, 10grams of silk fibres, silk fabric scraps & a small quantity of different threads & natural fibres (optional).
  • One old towel, two plastic grocery bags for wetting down, about 20 plastic grocery bags to stuff your pods firmly, sharp scissors

LARGE WHITE PAJ WRAP

$125 for full day tuition

In this class you will learnt the skills to make a lovely wrap embellished with silk fibre and fabrics. This is a classic wrap that with the right care will last a lifetime & become a family heirloom. By limiting the colour to white, you will be able to concentrate of design, texture & techniques.

This is a felting class suitable for all skill levels. It requires a moderate amount of physical work rubbing and rolling the felt.

Materials Required

  • 200 grams of natural wool top.
  • 2.5 metres of natural paj silk 90cm wide
  • 10 grams of natural tussah and/or bombyx silk fibre tops
  • For textural decoration, a handful of white natural fabric scraps of fine muslin, fine crochet, silk net, silk georgette, fine paj silk, beaded silk georgette, other fine open weave white fabrics, white wool yarn or silk threads (optional).
  • Two old towels, two plastic grocery bags for wetting down, sharp scissors

How do I enroll in one of your classes?
If you’d like to sign up for a class, you can call during business hours on 07 3870 1005, drop by the shop, or book online.

We do require a non-refundable deposit of $25 per person to reserve your place in any of our knitting or crocheting classes. We accept all major credit cards and Threads & More gift vouchers, or you can direct deposit into our bank account. As soon as we process your payment, you will be officially enrolled, with the remaining class fees to be paid on the day. For other specialty workshops including Felting, specific fees and deposits are outlined in the workshop description.

You will receive a email confirming your enrolment, including class details and materials required.

Book yourself and a friend into any Threads & More class or workshop and each receive 10% discount on your class fees.

Are the class supplies included in the class fee?
No.  You’ll also need to purchase your class supplies. 

Please have them prepared  (yarn in a ball, etc.) before the start of your class so everyone can get right to work.

All supplies are available in the shop, or online. You may already own the tools and notions required for the class, however we do ask that you purchase the yarn instore.

What if I am late to my class, miss my class or have to cancel?
Please be on time to your class, its a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to buy any required materials, wind yarn, grab a coffee and get settled. Anyone arriving more than 20 minutes after the class begins will forfeit the deposit paid to date and will be required to reschedule.

Unfortunately, if you miss a class, there are no available “make up” classes.



Our cancellation policy is as follows:
 

If you cancel up to 2 days (48 hours) before the first class, you will have the option to transfer into the next available class (any class of your preference) or have your deposit redeemed as store credit. We will issue a gift voucher for you to use in person at Threads & More or online

 (Gift vouchers are valid for six months from date of issue)

If you cancel fewer than 48 hours before the class there is no transfer or credit.  This is because our classes are designed for an intimate learning experience (6 students maximum) and such short notice prevents us from filling that space with another student.



Yarn in its original (unwound) condition can be returned for store credit for up to six months from the purchase date (please ensure you retain your original receipt for proof of purchase).
